Protirement is a word meaning early retirement from work with the intention of taking up other fulfilling activities.
This word was first coined by US broad-caster Arthur Godfrey in The American Mercury magazine in 1961.
While retirement carries the implication of an inactive state this is not what most people actually do.
Now that the Defined Retirement Age(DRA) has been removed employees no longer have the decision to retire made for them by reaching a particular birthday. Employees must now make a life decision which is more scarry than going to school for the first time; and then Mothers delivered them to the door!!!
There is a great deal of financial advice about how to invest lump sums and arrange their financial affairs but not much of that advice includes pointing out how much you will save not needing to travel to work every day; not having to have half a wardrobe of cloths for work; being able to go to events when the rates are cheaper during the day.
