HEaTED
This is the acronym for a national project to support the professional development of the technicians in all sections of UK education who support the technology used in learning and teaching in the UK's universities, FE colleges and schools.
Originally the project was devised (and remains principly funded) for the univeristy sector however the main issues are the same in all 3 sectors of education. The principle concern is that over the next few years about 40% of the senior technicians will be able to retire. Many will do so! Furthermore, for some very complex historical reasons there has been no formal accredited training specifically for these technicians for the best of 30 years.
Andrew has been part of the project from its earliest days, sitting on the national steering group which defined the project. Andrew, through Adastra SDS, is now the London Region co-ordinator for project, trying to get the message out, in these difficult times, to more than 4o HE Institutions within or adjacent to the M25.
Again through Adastra, Andrew is the project lead consultant for the creation of a new national apprenticeship scheme for this vital part of the national workforce.
